Microsoft hat seinen Fehler wieder gut gemacht und das Programm nun unter den richtigen Rahmenbedingungen veröffentlicht. Leider ist nun daraus ein typisches Microsoft Programm geworden das neben dem Installer noch andere Programme benötigt, wie zum Beispiel das .NET Framework und IMAPI, welche automatisch heruntergeladen werden, wenn diese nicht installiert sind.

Wie Peter Galli in seinem Blog erklärt:

I am very pleased to announce that Microsoft today released the Open Sourced Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool (WUDT) under the GPLv2.

As we previously explained, the testing and localization took longer than we expected, but the project is now hosted on CodePlex.com, Microsoft’s Open Source software project hosting repository, and the code can be found here. 

The tool can also now be downloaded from the Microsoft Store here.

Also, as a result of some necessary changes, while the user experience of the tool will be the same as before, the install involves additional steps.

Tobbi bemängelt zwar die fehlende Portabilität des USB/DVD Download Tool, aber das ist meiner Meinung auch gar nicht nötig, da es für Windows 7 nur eine ISO Datei gibt, erst durch den CD-Key wird die jeweilige Windows 7 Version installiert.

Es scheint mit den hier oben gelisteten Programmen um Windows 7 von USB zu installieren einige Probleme zu geben. Auf Akrat.net wird das Tool WinSetupFromUSB empfohlen. In der Tat scheint mit diesem Tool auch die Installation eines Windows 7 64bit Systems kein Problem zu sein.
